This is a useful book for a child and father to have light conversations that allow them to relate to each other's experiences growing up. Although I think it will work for my 13 yr old, the design looks like more for 8-12 years old. It has nice sections about activities, being a teenager, likes and dislikes. It is not as in-depth nor does it ask for the length of responses that a similar journal that I bought for my daughter did. (I actually think the shorter passages might ensure that my husband and son will complete it) What I really like about the book is that it takes into consideration the different family structures; adoption, parents who live together, and those who do not,etc. This is an older book, so I imagine the condition may vary.
