I had heard about this book since I was a child, I am now 77 years old, and was never in the position to purchase it until recently. I have always been fascinated with the myth of King Arthur due to history classes in school and afterwards by reading and watching movies about him. Working on my family tree and delving into the past on my maternal, English, side I have found much history. Ancestors such as Kings Henry I, II, III, King John I, some Scotish kings, French kings, Spanish kings and Portuguese kings, William the Conqueror, Charlemagne, and many other nobility So far it has been worth the wait to obtain the book, it is slow reading due to the use of Olde English, hahahaha. Yes I am enjoying the book very much. I want to thank you for the fast delivery to me.
This book is gorgeous! You feel like your stepping into medieval times when reading it. The script can be a bit hard to make out at times, but it add to the whole beauty of it. The illustrations are stunning to look at also! The font is about 7 point or 8 so know that before buying. It comes with a nice black ribbon marker and sturdy slipcase. Definitely designed for Arthur fans.
This is a defective printing. Chapters 21-24 are missing out of the book, so the publisher just printing them loose leaf, in a different font and format, and tucked them into the back of the book. Other reviewers have noted this so it is clearly a known defect and should not be sold.
I was looking for a Father's Day gift, and I stumbled across this book in a search. For an Arthurian Tales aficionado, he loved it and has taken it with him to read on vacation. I was so impressed, that I purchased a second copy for myself. The cover art is beautiful and the gilded pages give it a very kingly feel. The book as a nice weight when reading, and the text is clear and easy to read. The pages are crisp. The images are sharp and provide a nice occasional focus for your imagination.I have not encountered any printing problems.
Lovely volume with cloth cover that its a joy to hold. Reading it is like going to an art museum. I needed it for school and I invested in a purchase rather than a rental because I knew I would treasure this book and I have no regrets. The only problem, and it's my problem, is that the print is so tiny that even after Lasik I need magnification to read.
I love Le Morte D'arthur, But I was sorely disappointed when this book arrived! I purchased this book to use as a clue in an escape room. Approximately every 3-5 pages contained images of naked men, and women, and half naked female satyrs, sorcerers, and angels. Almost all of the naked images were unrelated to the text, the actual images used to tell the story, were frequently lovely, But then they just filled the rest of the book with repeated images (often the same) of off topic nudity. I do not mind tasteful, or even topical nudity in art work, but this was neither and it made the book unusable for an escape room geared to high school students. Come on guys! Do better!
It’s awesome. I really enjoy everything about it; the presentation and illustration, the feel of the leather cover, even the antiquated “Ye Olde English†it’s written in. Everything feels authentic from front to back—I’m already about 20% through it. If you like kings, knights and round tables, you can’t go wrong here.
overall it is enjoyable if you are a fan of the arthurian legend and want to know more about the knights/damsels in more detail (it has good character development, could be complicated) . the phrases can get abit repetitive especially in the battle scenes (limited style). the vocabulary is elegant and gives you a feeling of actually being in the legend itself. i personally loved it and read it along with 'sir gawain and the green knight'if you are looking just to read the story casually the abridged versions might be better suited .
