The thing to keep in mind with this book is that it was put out by a publisher with publishing in mind-- if you want really detailed art instruction, look elsewhere. This isn't that sort of book. This is for people who want to submit their work somewhere like Tapastic or Inkblazers and have the intention of publishing and making money off that work; it has guides for the basic processes, such as brainstorming, and editing your page setup. The greatest bulk of the content helps to familiarize you with the different parts of the processes, comes with tips to help draw your eye where you might otherwise make mistakes.My favorite section of the book is over storyboarding, which is my weak point. While the section isn't the be-all end-all (they're only giving you an overview to start you off, after all), it certainly gives you enough information to start heading off in the right direction.I honestly love this volume; it's simple, but if you take it seriously it gives you a good heading for putting out a finished oneshot or series.
This is a really great book that teaches you how to draw manga. I picked it up from a library a long time ago and I just needed to buy my own copy! :)I gave this 4 stars however because the library stickers are in the inside of the book and I cant remove it without damaging anything. They did however provide me with a clear cover and its still readable so I dont mind so much! :)
There's nothing wrong the book itself, it just wasn't what I was looking for. What I really wanted was how to do an actual layout of a page in shojo because I'm terrible at organizing. I also hoped that there'd be more of a guide for how to draw scenes as well. The entire book was dedicated to actually submitting your work to real publishers, which I had little to no interest in. So although it'd be great for like....an aspiring manga-ka or something, it's not that great for learners of the art. It's more about publishing.
