The U.S. and British Virgin Islands are extremely popular vacation choices for Americans and this is justifiably so. Fodor's give us a comprehensive guide for would be travelers. It covers all the essentials such as how to get there, where to stay, where to eat, where to party, etc. Tips fir insuring the tourist's safety are highlighted. There is crime in the Virgin Islands as there is everywhere, and tips on being cautious are included here. There's also advice on tipping. Just about anything you would want to know in order to make your trip a happy none is covered here. This is a handy sized guide that can easily be taken with you.
The Fodor’s Travel U.S. & British Virgin Islands travel book has sections on some general information, and then the islands of St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, and Tortola. There is also a section that covers a few other smaller islands. The inside of the back cover is a map of the entire US/British Virgin Islands.I got the book to learn more about the island and to find some useful information for beaches, attractions, and restaurants. The book is written primarily for land travel but we go to the islands by cruise ship. There is still plenty of useful information to cruisers if you know what section of the islands your ship will port. There are maps listed in the chapters that map out the cruise ports, ferry routes, airports, etc.I miss the travel guides inserting a pull out map that you can pull out and take with you to the islands.
I have always found Fodor's travel guides to be well laid out and easy to use. This one is no exception. The book is made with thick pages, good quality paper that will stand up to a bit of wear and tear. The photos and maps are colorful. They give you a good idea of where to go on the islands along with the text explaining where to eat, shop, and how to stay safe. There's lots of information in this relatively small book. It's a good research tool to plan your trip before you go and small enough to take along while you're traveling.
